Red Birds Deliver Strong Performances in Ripon
De Pere turned in a strong performance Tuesday at the Ripon College Invitational, highlighted by wins in the hurdles, distance and field events.
The boys were led by Tyler Hancock, who won the 60-meter hurdles in a personal-best 8.08 seconds. Richmond Gyamfi added a pair of third-place finishes, running 7.21 in the 60 and an indoor personal-best 52.95 in the 400.
In distance events, Noah Zhang placed second in the 1600 (4:38.62), while Vincent Hauser took second in the 3200 (10:21.06) and Oliver Qualls added a fifth-place finish. Brett Spice was fifth in the 800 (2:05.17).
De Pere also saw strong results in the field. Cayden Cavanaugh won the shot put with an indoor personal-best 51-9.5, and Noah Vander Heyden won the triple jump (44-1) while placing fourth in the long jump. Additional points came from Aiden Arttus (high jump), Ethan Flom (pole vault), and Luca Johnson in both horizontal jumps.
On the girls side, Bella Heideman won the 3200 in a personal-best 11:24.91. Natalie Novak placed eighth in the same race (12:29.67), while Kassidy Hutjens added a personal-best 5:50.94 in the 1600.
In the field, Bryn Murphy tied for seventh in the pole vault (9-6), with Emma Seitz eighth (9-0). Hailey Gerlikowski placed ninth in the shot put.
De Pere also picked up relay performances, with the girls 4x400 team placing sixth (4:28.69) and the boys finishing eighth (3:51.34).
Overall, De Pere showed balance across events, with the boys getting top finishes in hurdles, distance and field, and the girls led by distance and pole vault.
